OmniFish Announces Partnership with Open J Proxy

OmniFish is pleased to announce a partnership with Open J Proxy (OJP), an open source project focused on improving database connection management for modern Java applications.

OmniFish specialises in Jakarta EE, enterprise Java, and production support for mission-critical systems. Through this partnership, we will collaborate with Open J Proxy to help Java teams address database scalability challenges that arise in elastic architectures such as Kubernetes, microservices, and cloud-native deployments.

Traditional connection pooling approaches often result in each application instance opening its own set of database connections. As applications scale horizontally, this can place excessive load on the database. Open J Proxy addresses this problem by centralising connection management at the proxy layer, allowing applications to scale while keeping database connection usage under control.

This perfectly fits deployment of GlassFish instances in a cluster or microservices in Kubernetes replica sets. Each GlassFish instance can connect to the database through a shared OpenJ Proxy, which helps prevent database overload while ensuring consistent performance and system stability under high traffic.

What this partnership enables:

  • Enterprise Java expertise supporting organisations evaluating or adopting Open J Proxy
  • Guidance for production use of OJP in Jakarta EE and Java-based systems
  • Community collaboration through shared educational content and knowledge exchange
  • Alignment around open source and practical solutions for the Java ecosystem

What to expect next:

  • Educational initiatives focused on database resilience and scaling patterns
  • Joint participation in Java community events
  • Shared content for Java developers working with distributed systems

We look forward to working with the Open J Proxy team and contributing our experience to help Java developers build more resilient and scalable applications.
