Many organisations continue to rely on Payara Server to run business-critical Jakarta EE applications. These systems often represent years of development and continue to deliver significant value, making stability and long-term maintenance a higher priority than constant platform changes.
OmniFish Build of Payara is designed for exactly these environments. While OmniFish stands strongly behind the Eclipse GlassFish project and provides top-quality support for GlassFish, we understand that it’s not straightforward to upgrade from older Payara versions to GlassFish. We decided to bridge this gap and start offering our supported builds of Payara to allow a smooth transition to a Payara Server build supported by OmniFish, without having to migrate to GlassFish to be able to benefit from our support services.
An affordable professionally maintained Payara distribution
OmniFish Build of Payara provides maintained builds of Payara Server and Payara Micro, allowing organisations to continue running their existing applications with confidence.
Our engineers maintain the platform by delivering critical bug fixes, security updates and production-ready releases on top of the latest available Payara Community version, helping teams keep their deployments current without taking on the burden of maintaining their own internal fork.
Whether you’re running a handful of applications or supporting hundreds of deployments, the goal is the same. Provide a reliable Payara runtime that you can trust in production, without risk of regressions from new changes or upgrades.
OmniFish Build of Payara currently provides builds for Payara Community 5 and 6, which are not maintained anymore. They provide a much more cost-efficient alternative to Payara Enteprise backed by recognized engineers with proven expertise in the platform.
- Payara Community 5:
- Last Release: 5.2022.5 released in 2022
- OmniFish Build of Payara 5 supported until 2029
- Payara Community 6:
- Last Release: 6.2025.11 released in 2025
- OmniFish Build of Payara 5 supported until 2032

Developed by engineers who work on the platform
OmniFish has a long history within the enterprise Java ecosystem.
Our team actively contributes to Eclipse GlassFish, Jakarta EE and related open source projects, giving us an in-depth understanding of the technologies that underpin Payara Server. That knowledge enables us to investigate issues at source level, produce high quality fixes and provide meaningful technical support when complex problems arise.
When issues occur, you’re speaking with engineers who understand how the application server works internally, not just how to configure it.
We already know how to detect and address vulnerabilities in GlassFish and we bring this experience to our OmniFish Build of Payara. The added benefit is that as soon as we find out about a vulnerability in GlassFish, we quickly verify whether it applies also to our Payara builds. We then port all security fixes from GlassFish to Payara, even if the original CVE is reported only for GlassFish. Although traditional CVE scanners don’t report such vulnerabilities for Payara, attackers know how Payara and GlassFish are similar and will try exploiting those CVEs against Payara deployments. OmniFish Build of Payara will protect you against these risks.
Long-term maintenance for production environments
Enterprise applications often have very different requirements from greenfield projects.
Many organisations need to maintain existing systems for years while continuing to meet security, compliance and operational requirements. Replatforming is rarely an immediate option, and unsupported runtimes introduce unnecessary operational risk.
OmniFish Build of Payara helps address these challenges by providing:
- Security updates and critical fixes for supported Payara releases
- No unnecessary improvements or updates, minimizing regression risks
- Troubleshooting support from experienced Java engineers
- Predictable, production-ready builds
- A supported path for organisations that want to continue using Payara Server
- A migration path to Eclipse GlassFish to get better support and improvements from OmniFish engineers
This allows development teams to modernise applications on their own timeline rather than being forced into unnecessary migrations.
